What is Kebaya?

Kebaya is a part of the Indonesia’s cultures. Kebaya becomes the reflection of Indonesian women’s gracefulness from time to time. In the past, kebaya was traditional costume of kingdoms/noble family.

Kebaya was once deemed as an old fashion clothing, but today, kebaya is widely used by the Indonesian women again.

Indonesia has many art and cultural heritages. One of them is Kebaya.

Nowdays, Kebaya is chosen outfit which many people wear in various events,such as graduation, wedding, and another. Even, image of Kebaya as Javanese traditional outfit has become more invisible because many regions in Indonesiaa also wear this outfit. So that Kebaya is good being national outfit.

Kebaya itself shows the character of Indonesian culture which puts forward good manners in wearing outfit both formal and informal events. Body-fit cut outfi gives aa sigh about the elegance and feminine of women as the wearer. Many creativities of Indonesian designers always create new creation becoming modern

Yet, many people do not realize that many variants Kebaya are Javanesse Kebaya, 

Balinesse Kebaya, Kebaya Encim, Kebaya Kutu Baru and Kartinian Kebaya

1. Kartinian Kebaya

This model used to be worn by noble Javanesse women in era of R.A Kartini. 

So Javanesse Kebaya is also known as Kartinian Kebaya. The cut of outfit is almost same with Kebaya Encim, the difference is fold on the breast. Other characteristics itself are length of Kebaya covering hips, and collar fold with vertical-lines making the wearer look tall and slim. 

2. Javanesse Kebaya

This model has a simple design with V-neck cut. Its motif is ordinary so that giving simple impression. The material of Javanesse Kebaya is usually made of transparent-motif clothes mixed and matched with upper-under clothes.

3.Kebaya Encim

Kebaya Encim is combination of Chinesse Cheongsam and Malayan. Kebaya Encim commonly made of organdy or cotton. This Kebaya is differenciated by V-neck cut design with embroidery all over collar.

4. Balinesse Kebaya

Balinesse Kebaya has addition detail with the obi over the hips and stomach. The materials itself made of brocade and cotton. Additional obi can be on it directly or added in separated Kebaya.

5. Kebaya Kutu Baru

Basic model of Kebaya Kutu Baru is the same with others. The difference is addition cloth to put left and right sides Kebaya in breast and stomach part. To wear this Kebaya also uses stagen (the cloth over stomach) or korset to make the 

wearer look slim.
